How to File a VA Disability Claim

A step-by-step walkthrough for Vietnam Veterans filing a disability claim with the VA — what to gather, how to submit, and where to get help.

As a Vietnam Veteran, you can file a claim with VA for disability benefits, health care, and other services by following a few steps.

Step 1: Gather Required Documents

Collect all necessary documents, including:

  • DD-214 (discharge papers)
  • Medical records
  • Any other evidence supporting your claim

Step 2: Submit Your Claim

You can file your claim in several ways:

  • Online through the VA online portal
  • By mail
  • In person at a VA Regional Office
  • With help from a Veterans Service Organization (VSO)
